St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Trumbull, CT, is a parish of about 3,300
families with an established traditional church music program. There is a
three-manual 38 rank Peragallo pipe organ with 7 additional Walker electronic
stops, mainly in the Pedal division.  Adjacent to the organ, there is a
Yamaha concert grand. The choir is composed of around 35 singers, including
four professional section leaders (SATB). The choir sings high quality
literature ranging from Gregorian chant and polyphony through 21st century
repertoire. Although most literature is available ahead of time, excellent
sight-reading skills are a must, as well as a high level of artistry and
proficiency in playing both the organ and the piano.

Compensation is in the range of $17,000-20.000 per year, negotiable and
commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits: two weeks paid
vacation.

Required education: BM (Organ Performance)
Preferable: MM in Organ Performance
Understanding of Catholic traditions and liturgy are necessary.

The Assistant Organist is responsible for accompanying and playing for the
following:

•    Choir rehearsals (and leading in absence of the music director):
Wednesday evenings, 7.30pm – 9.30pm (September through mid-June: Corpus
Christi)
•    Saturday Vigil Masses  (4:30pm)
•    Two Sunday masses: 10.30am High Mass with 10:00am choral rehearsal, and
either 9:00am or 12:00pm Mass
•    Extra services: Holy Days of Obligation (all 4 masses), Thanksgiving
Service (Tuesday before Thanksgiving), Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols,
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Confirmation Mass, Tenebrae Service
(Wednesday of Holy Week), Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Easter
Sunday, and Pentecost Vespers on a Sat. afternoon at 4:00pm.
•    Mass of Remembrance (fall) and Mass of Anointing (spring)
•    3-4 Tridentine Masses during the year (Sundays at 2:30pm with a rehearsal
at 1:00pm). These masses are extra income.

In addition, the Assistant Organist is responsible for arranging for a
substitute organist in the event of absence, illness, vacation, or
professional development. The organist is also responsible for playing for
funerals and weddings (coordinating with families, couples, hiring singers
and instrumentalists, etc.).  All these services are additional income of an
average of $20,000 per year.
