Job Description:

The Amherst College Department of Music invites applications for a full-time appointment as director of the Choral Music Program and lecturer in music that will begin July 1, 2018. Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant recipients; 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of color.

Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. The position involves directing all aspects of Amherst College’s choral ensembles, contributing to the development of the departmental curriculum (including opportunities to teach musicianship and repertoire courses), occasionally supervising honors theses related to choral performance or choral conducting, and occasionally teaching and coaching choral conducting.

This is a three-year appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful review. D.M.A. or Ph.D. preferred, M.M. or M.A. required by the time of appointment.

A cover letter, CV, statement of artistic and teaching philosophy, links to videos of rehearsals and performances (if available), and three confidential letters of reference should be submitted electronically to https://apply.interfolio.com/44243. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2017, and continue until the position is filled.
