Job Description:
Vibrant, 700-member, Open & Affirming church on the edge of a university
campus is looking for a team-player who understands both music and
progressive theology to join our staff.

Essential functions:
•       Planning for/coordinating the total church music program, including hand
bells, instrumentalists, ensemble, and guest musicians
•       Hiring, directing, and releasing paid soloists and guest instrumentalists
•       Directing the Chancel Choir and Hand Bell Choir
•       Playing organ for two services per week, plus other special services
during the year (i.e., Thanksgiving, Christmas Cantata, Christmas eve [up to
4 services], Christmas Day, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Palm
Sunday, Easter [up to 3 services], ordinations and pastoral installations.)
•       Supervising music for third service each Sunday (mix of genres:
Jazz, Iona, Taizé, folk, etc.)
•       Developing and expanding Children’s and Youth musical choirs/ensembles
•       Ensure that all music selections fit well with the overall service.

Other Responsibilities:
•       Recruit, equip, motivate, and direct all involved in chancel choir,
handbell choir, and other musicians.
•       Maintenance of all instruments
•       Design budgetary requests and work within an annually approved music
budget
•       Network with other colleagues in the local music community through such
programs as the American Guild of Organists, ecumenical events, etc.
•       Be familiar with the overall goals that the congregation has set for
itself. Know how these goals influence the music programs, and how these
goals may be obtained. Work at integrating these goals and growing the depth
of the Music Ministry for the whole congregation.
•       Developing future music programs inclusive of, but not limited to: music
ensembles, performance groups, and new connections with Colorado State
University
•       Attend weekly staff meetings and coordinate music closely with other
staff.
•       Select pieces that are theologically appropriate for a progressive church
•       Encourage the use of inclusive language in performances
•       Be mindful of building a sense of community and musicianship among all
choir/ensemble members.
•       Schedule rehearsals, retreats, and continuing education as appropriate
for each choir/ensemble

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates will be evaluated on experience, education, and demonstrated
ability to work creatively in collaborative situations.
A qualified candidate will:
•       Have earned a Bachelors degree in music or related field
•       Have a minimum of 3 years of experience with choral conducting and
organist experience in sacred music or equivalent skills
•       Be proficient and experienced in playing both organ and piano.
•       Be proficient and experienced in choral direction.
•       Be open to incorporating diverse musical genres in the worship service.
•       Be flexible in collaborating with the Senior Minister, staff and Deacons.
•       Be able to develop an adult choir.
•       Be creative in leading and contributing to an inspiring, spiritual
environment, and able to maintain a fresh, evolving approach to the
church’s music program.
•       Additional Desired Qualifications: Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts
