Literature and Spirituality Series

Yale Divinity Bookstore, 409 Prospect Street, New Haven

Hadas’s poetry is colored by Greek myth and her New York neighborhood, by personal transitions and loss. Her work articulates the intersection of grief, memory, and love, whether in mourning the death of a parent or friend, or in observing her son’s growing independence. Hadas established and ran a poetry workshop for people with AIDS at the Gay Men’s Health Crisis in New York City; the results of that workshop were published inUnending Dialogue: Voices from an AIDS Poetry Workshop. A scholar as well as a poet, Hadas has produced critical and reflective essays on other authors, including her poetic contemporaries. Her many honors and awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship in poetry, an Ingram Merrill Foundation grant in poetry, and an award in literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Rachel Hadas teaches in the English department of Rutgers University.
