In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Southampton in recognition of his services to music.

David Hill’s broad-ranging discography extends to over seventy recordings, including many award-winners. He is engaged in committing to disc a series of works by major English choral composers with the Bach Choir and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for Naxos, the next being Delius’s Mass of Life.
