Job Description:
Standish Congregational Church is seeking a Minister of Music with a strong
sense of mission to nurture and develop our small but vibrant adult and youth
choirs; with a discerning ear to select service music in collaboration with
the Pastor to enhance worship; and with passion and enthusiasm for working
with participants of all ages and levels of ability.

Our Minister of Music is a part-time, year-round role (10-12 hours/week),
with responsibilities including:

•       Leading weekly rehearsal sessions for the adult choir; leading and/or
coordinating rehearsals for youth choir
•       Encouraging congregational singing and recruiting new choir participants
from the congregation
•       In collaboration with the Pastor, selecting and planning music for all
Sunday services as well as seasonal special services as needed (e.g. Holy
Week, Advent)
•       Building, maintaining, and organizing the library of music materials
•       Overseeing the budget for the music ministry of the church, including the
purchase of music & supplies, hiring supplemental musicians for special
events as needed
•       Supervising the maintenance of musical instruments (piano/organ)
•       Provide music for weddings and funerals (for an additional fee)

Preferred candidates will have the following qualifications:

•       Music-related degree, or comparable experience
•       Strong conducting and sight-reading skills
•       Strong organ and keyboard skills
•       Knowledge of vocal teaching methods and choral singing
•       Self-motivated with excellent people and communication skills
•       Collaborative in working with worship leaders and the Pastor
•       Enthusiastic about mentoring  youth and children

Standish Congregational Church is a small but tight-knit community of faith,
with an average attendance of 50-75 per week.  Affiliated with the United
Church of Christ, we recently adopted the following “vision” statement:

The town of Standish, ME is located a stone’s throw from beautiful Sebago
Lake with a wide variety of recreational opportunities, while being equally
close to vibrant arts, shopping, restaurants and culture in nearby Portland.
