Job Description:

St. John’s Episcopal Church, Washington, CT, is searching for an
Organist/Choirmaster to continue the tradition of choral music strongly
embedded in the life of the parish. The liturgical life of the parish is
firmly rooted in the Rite 1 tradition of the Book of Common Prayer. The St.
John’s Choir, an SATB ensemble supported by paid section leaders, offers at
least two anthems in addition to service music each week, as well as periodic
evensongs, drawing from the corpus of Anglican choral music. A Service of
Advent Lessons and Carols is offered to the larger Litchfield County area
each December. The organ, 3/34, was built by the Wicks Organ Company and
installed in 1999. The parish offers a yearly 4 concert series, two in the
spring and two in the fall, featuring artists from the New York and the
greater New England area. St. John’s commitment to excellence in music is
recognized and widely supported by the greater Washington community.

Proficiency as an organist, accompanist, and choral trainer, as well as
reasonable computer skills, are required. The position requires a flexible
team player who will work in conjunction with the Rector and Parish
Administrator in the execution of events outside of regular Sunday liturgical
activities, i.e. Holiday Bazaar (late November), Food Fest (mid-August).

St. John’s is located in Washington, CT, a quintessential New England town
in the beautiful rolling Litchfield hills of western Connecticut. The area is
a weekend community for New York City (approximately 90 miles) and a number
of St. John’s parishioners are “weekenders.” New Haven, CT is 38 miles
away; Hartford, CT is 50 miles away.

The position is considered ¾ time. Salary and benefits commensurate with
education and experience based upon AGO and AAM guidelines. Housing is
provided.
