Full-time Assistant Organist/Choirmaster to assist Canon for Music in all
aspects of the music program at this historic downtown cathedral parish, a
vibrant and outward-looking community whose mission is to make the Cathedral
a sacred space for the city of Nashville. The music program comprises the
Cathedral Choir, Cathedral Choristers, and the Parish Choir. Musical
liturgies are Rite II Eucharist, several Choral Evensongs, and the Festival
of Lessons and Carols each year. The Cathedral possesses a 2003
Lively/Fulcher III/61 pipe organ, which may be used by the Assistant
Organist/Choirmaster for teaching purposes.

Assistant Organist/Choirmaster will assist with organ playing and conducting
for rehearsals and Cathedral liturgies including weddings, funerals, and
Diocesan events. The applicant should have experience working with
children’s choirs and possess both a working knowledge of vocal technique
and the ability to convey vocal skills to choristers. The successful
candidate will be in charge of the Junior Choristers (2 and 3rd grade),
assist with accompanying/ directing the Senior Choristers (4 – 9th grade),
and assist in the administration of the RSCM program. Occasional other
liturgical roles may be assigned to the Asst. O/C, depending on the
candidate’s skills and interests.

The position requires a high degree of organ proficiency, significant
experience in choral conducting and choral accompanying, and general
organizational skills. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Organ Performance
or an equivalent degree in Sacred Music and/or conducting required. The
successful candidate will demonstrate good interpersonal and communications
skills. Competency in using music-writing/notation software will be
considered an asset.

Salary commensurate with skill level and experience.  Benefits include

budget) as well as sabbatical leave after six years of continuous employment.
