JOB DESCRIPTION: INTERIM MINISTER OF MUSIC, CHORAL and HANDBELLS
The Minister of Music, Choral and Handbells is a part-time, salaried,
position reporting to, and working in collaboration with, the Senior Pastor.
The position is 20-25 hours per week during the school year and 20 hours per
week during the summer. Hours are flexible with the exception of service,
rehearsal and staff meeting times.

The Interim Minister of Music will organize and lead the music for the
traditional Sunday morning worship service, holiday services, and other
congregational events at the United Church of Christ in Medfield,
Massachusetts, drawing on a strong faith in Christ. The Interim Minister of
Music will select, teach and lead the volunteer adult and children’s choirs
in a wide and varied repertoire of sacred choral music for the traditional
worship service, being willing and able to meet the congregational needs for
music of varying styles and time periods.

Key  Responsibilities:

Musical Leadership
o       Research and procure music which incorporates congregational needs,
visions, goals and requests of the community through interaction both inside
and outside rehearsal and worship time.
o       Select appropriate supporting music ensembles for the traditional worship
service.
o       Direct adult and youth choirs.
o       Select music for holiday services and special events including the
community carol sing (December).
o       Provide music for weddings and funerals as available for additional fee.
o       Secure soloists/ensembles for weddings and funerals as needed and able.
Dependent upon requests/needs this may incur an additional fee to the regular
wedding/funeral fee.
o               Secure additional musicians for Sunday worship services, holiday services
and other special events as needed.
o       Encourage and work with musicians from UCC Medfield community to
participate in
worship and holiday services as well as performances.

Conducting
o       Lead and conduct music during the traditional Sunday morning worship
service, holiday services and special events.
o       Prepare and rehearse choirs. This includes the senior vocal and handbell
choirs and two youth choirs which provide musical education and participation
opportunities for church members of all ages.

Keyboard performance
o       Provide organ and piano accompaniment during the Sunday morning worship
services, ensemble rehearsals, holiday services and at special events, as
needed.

Administration
o       Participation in weekly staff meetings with clergy and other staff members
is desirable, but negotiable.
o       Provide clerical and administrative support to office staff for the music
program.
o       Function as a team player with fellow church staff members and in
collaboration with the Minister of Praise Music.
o       Upkeep of Sanctuary Music pages of website
o       Communications with ensembles
o       Submit and manage a music budget for traditional music and services.

Other
o       Be familiar with the overall vision and goals of the congregation, how
these goals influence the music program, and how the music program can extend
those goals.
o       Learn about the people in the congregation and the community so that you
can plan
music appropriate to their needs.

COMPENSATION: Salary will be based on educational background and experience.
