Job Description: 

The section leader position is an independent contractor position, without benefits. Positions are available as of December 4, 2021.

St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Trumbull, CT, has an established traditional church music program. The choir is composed of around 30 singers, including four professional section leaders (SATB). The choir sings high quality literature ranging from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony through and beyond musical romanticism. Section leaders are expected to display good sight-reading skills and work well with volunteers. Desired vocal qualities include impeccable intonation and the ability to sing lyrically and expressively in all dynamics.

Section leaders are required to sing for the following:

  • Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings, 7 pm – 8:45 pm (September through mid- June: Corpus Christi)
  • Sunday duties: 10:30 am High Mass with 9:45 am rehearsal.
  • Extra services: Thanksgiving Service (Tuesday before Thanksgiving), Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Confirmation Mass (usually on a Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm), Tenebrae Service (Wednesday of Holy Week), Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday, Pentecost Vespers on a Sat. afternoon at 4:00 pm, and occasional Tridentine Masses during the year (Sundays at 2:30 pm with a rehearsal at 1:00pm).
  • Other opportunities for additional income: cantoring for funerals, weddings, and other weekend masses.

Compensation: negotiable/based on experience (some services pay more than others)

Minimum required education: BM in Vocal Performance
