Job Summary

The Atonement Academy is searching for an assistant music director to assist in the instruction and conducting of ten performing choirs (2nd Grade Choir, 3rd & 4th Grade Boys Choir, 3rd & 4th Grade Girls Choir, 5th & 6th Grade Boys Choir, 5th & 6th Grade Girls Choir, Middle School Boys Choir, Middle School Girls Choir, Men’s Chorale, Women’s Chorale, Honors Choir) and two Gregorian chant ensembles that perform on a rotational basis for daily Mass. The assistant will oversee at least three choirs, and teach multiple grade levels. The music curriculum in the lower school grades (K-6 th) follows the Ward Method of Music Instruction, a classical approach to music pedagogy. 

Organs

  • 3 – manual, 50 rank Casavant pipe organ (church)
  • 1 – manual, 7 rank Laukhuff organ (chapel)

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform various tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Music 
  • Oversee any assigned ensembles or music classes as prescribed by the Director of Music
  • Assist with maintaining the choral music library and assist with the creation of weekly hymn sheets, Gospel acclamations, and graduals for daily school Mass
  • Assist with the creation of the monthly Choir Calendar that designates which choirs will be singing on which day this is distributed to the rest of the faculty via email before the 1st of each month for daily school Mass
  • Assist with the creation of the monthly Altar Server/Greeter Calendar which designates which students will serve in which positions each day for daily school Mass
  • Sponsor students who wish to participate in the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) Middle School and TMEA High School process while teaching the designated music within the classroom
  • Sponsor students who wish to participate in the TPSMEA (Texas Private School Music Educators Association) Children’s Honors Choir
  • Sponsor students who wish to participate in the TPSMEA Solo & Ensemble Competition
  • Ensure that the choral program maintains an active involvement in the community
  • Attend all choral activities assigned by the Director of Music (this may include events that take place after school, over holidays, and on weekends)
  • Perform various other clerical tasks and responsibilities as designated by the Head of School and administration

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • The candidate must be a practicing Catholic
  • The candidate must hold a Bachelors degree in music with an emphasis in voice or piano
  • The candidate must be willing to use Ward Method or be willing to be trained in the Ward Method
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience playing the organ
