Associate Organist (Darien, CT)

Music at Saint Luke’s features an adult parish choir including professional staff singers, a chorister program consisting of three choirs, and an RSCMA Voice for Life class; the parish is also in the beginning stages of commissioning a new pipe organ. The Choir season lasts from early September through Trinity Sunday, and in summer months, the Associate alternates every other Sunday with the Director of Music, freeing up additional time for travel, performing, or continuing ed.
The Associate Organist (a part-time position, approx. 10 hrs/week) is under the supervision of the Director of Music. Compensation includes an annual salary of $25K, an on-campus apartment, compensation for weddings and funerals, vacation time, and paid travel/accommodations on choir tours. Expectations include, but are not limited to:
~ Playing the weekly 8 AM Sunday Eucharist when assigned (usually every other week).
~ Playing or conducting at the weekly 10 AM Sunday Eucharist.
~ Accompanying all rehearsals.
~ Assisting with the RSCMA Voice for Life program.
~ Playing one monthly Saturday Evensong Sept.-May; and for other special services, i.e. Ash Wednesday, Holy Week/Easter, Advent Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve/Day, and other services as assigned.
Requirements include significant experience with organ literature, accompanying choral literature, improvisation, and the desire to work with both children and adults in a highly active parish.
