Church Music Director (Rocky Hill, Ct)
The Rocky Hill Congregational Church, UCC, a vibrant and musically talented Open and Affirming Church, seeks a Director of Music.
As the primary organist/pianist and choir director, this person serves as a resource to foster and coordinate the worship and spiritual life of the congregation through choral and instrumental music. As a member of the professional staff, the Director of Music works with the pastor, staff and volunteers to plan and coordinate worship services and related activities. The position has direct responsibility for our adult choir and handbell choir.
Our congregation enjoys traditional music and encourages newer musical forms as a part of worship. Music is extremely important to us. In these times our music implementation is reacting to online (Zoom) worship while looking ahead to the next generation of church music. The functions of organist/pianist and choir director are changing with the times; creativity and flexibility will be required as we determine the way forward. Familiarity with technology will be increasingly important as we evolve. Ability to develop a virtual choir and/or virtual smaller ensembles would be a strong plus. When in-person corporate worship is again safe, we look to further develop our strong music program.
The ideal candidate would have a BA with at least two years’ relevant experience, preferably in a church setting. We are looking for excellent “people” skills, and comfort with the progressive UCC philosophy.
Salary for this half-time position will be based on the education and experience of the candidate. The total compensation package would be in a range ($25,000-$35,000) with health or pension benefits negotiable as a component of compensation.
