NORTH HAVEN CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH 

Professional Staff Position 

About Us: The North Haven Congregational Church is seeking an Organist for the church’s worship services. The organ is a well-maintained Wicks Chancel pipe organ with two manuals and ten ranks (Opus 2175). The Organist will work with the Music Director to support a music program which complements and enhances the church through weekly and occasional special services. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Organist has the responsibility to provide music for the following: 

· 48 Sunday morning services (9:30am), including Easter (+/- 37 with Choir warm-up) 

· 21 Choir rehearsals (approx. two per month, scheduled in advance with friendly Music Director) 

· Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve services 

· Community Ecumenical Service or Wider Church Event if held at NHCC 

and is expected to:

 · Communicate regularly with the Music Director 

· Attend monthly Staff meetings for Worship Planning as needed 

· Consult with and make recommendations to the Music Mission Team and Music Director with regard to the operation and maintenance of the organ and other instruments. 

· Estimated average time commitment at church of 4 - 4.5 hours per week. Options:

  • The Organist may also practice for services on the church organ in consultation with the Music Director, Office Manager and Pastor.
  • The Organist has the option of first refusal to provide the music for weddings and funerals which would provide additional compensation
  • Has the option to provide organ/piano lessons in the building following Safe Conduct Policy.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Knowledge of sacred music, hymnody, and Christian traditions
  • Ability and willingness to perform a variety of music (including traditional, classical, contemporary, gospel, folk etc.)
  • Flexibility between pipe organ and piano/keyboard is desirable.

 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with adults and children/youth who have wide ranges of musical abilities.

 

Job Type: Part-time 

Pay: $1,078.00 - $1,290.00 per month
