Key Responsibilities and Minimum Requirements: Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Director of Liturgical Music.

The Director of Liturgical Music is a professional who is a practicing Catholic in good standing and has a strong understanding of Catholic liturgical music and worship. This individual directs and supervises the liturgical music for the Cathedral Parish community.

The applicant must possess a working knowledge and appreciation of both traditional and contemporary liturgical music, can work with people of all ages and abilities, and the skills to facilitate the recruitment and development of choral and instrumental personnel for music ministry.

The applicant must possess a demonstrated primary proficiency in choral vocal techniques, and choral conducting with the ability organize, develop, and supervise choral groups and cantors, lead rehearsals, and schedule music. The Director must also have a secondary ability as a liturgical organist and piano accompanist. The Director of Liturgical Music will work in close collaboration with this person’s primary music colleague, the Cathedral Organist & Music Associate.

The position requires demonstrated communication, interpersonal and relationship skills. It is preferable that the applicant be a fluent Spanish speaker and be experienced in working with Hispanic liturgical music and customs.

The applicant must have the ability to function in a self-directed but collaborative work environment, the ability to direct and supervise volunteer and professional administrative support staff, communicate effectively with leadership, volunteer, and professional musicians. The position requires computer literacy, including Windows and supporting software.
