Director of Music and Organist (Killingworth CT)

St Lawrence Church in Killingworth CT has an immediate opening for a new Director of Music and Organist to head the parish music program.  This is a part time position.

The music director will head the music ministry program by serving as principal musician, organist, pianist, and choir director according to the highest professional standards by the profession.

Ideal candidates must have a high degree of proficiency in the use of the organ and piano with proven credentials.  Familiarity of other instruments a plus.  The parish organ is an Austin Pipe organ with 3 manuals (Positive, Great & Swell) and the parish piano is a Yamaha upright.

A Bachelor’s degree in music is required and a master’s degree is a plus.  Ideal candidate should be a practicing Catholic with working knowledge and familiarity of the Catholic Church’s liturgical practices and possess a willingness to work collaboratively with the pastor and liturgy committee.

Candidates must be self-motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills, have familiarity with computer programs such as Word, significant choral direction experience with both children and adults, and the ability to recruit cantors and choral members.

In addition to the regular liturgical schedule of three Masses each weekend, the music director will select music and coordinate additional services for Holy days, sacramental celebrations including First Holy Communion and Confirmation, weddings, funerals and rehearsals.  Availability for Christmas, all of Holy Week and Easter Sunday is required.

Salary range is $25,000-$30,000 without benefits.  Salary will be commensurate with education, experience and level of expertise.
