Minimum Requirements:  

Bachelor of Music degree (education, choral conducting, voice),  

Minimum of seven years full-time experience in choral directing. 

 

The Director of Music and Worship Arts is responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of the total traditional music program and other worship arts ministries of FUMC Georgetown. Strong candidates will serve the role with joy in teamwork with others while empowering the laity to use their gifts and talents for worship. 

Full-time professional responsible to the Senior Pastor.

General: 

  • The Director of Music and Worship Arts will work with pastors, program staff, and the laity of the church in the development, promotion and coordination of music, worship and other worship arts ministries with the overall ministry program of the church.  

  • Takes a major role in the planning and implementation of two traditional worship services. 

 

Development: 

  • Recruit and provide training for laity in music and worship arts ministries. 

  • Affirm laity through training and encouragement in using their gifts and talents in music. 
     

Directing: 

  • Direct the music and worship at the current 8:00am and 11:10am worship services. 

  • Direct and/or supervise the chancel choir, two handbell choirs, orchestra, liturgical arts team, and any other musical or worship arts group that might be established. 

  • Oversee, plan, and prepare seasonal worship services for Advent (Cantata), Christmas Eve, Good Friday, and Easter. 

 

Administration: 

  • Oversee use of Planning Center Online to help organize all volunteers and staff for worship services. 

  • Supervise all aspects of worship including audio, lights, video, ushers, scripture readers, communion stewards, acolytes, and other aspects of worship. 

  • Provide leadership in the care of the worship arts assets: organ, pianos, handbells, chimes, music library, audio, lighting, and video equipment. 

  • Attend appropriate meetings including weekly staff meeting. 

 

Professional Development: 

  • Attend continuing education events to enhance personal growth, musical growth, knowledge about worship, and other worship arts. 

  • Attend to personal spiritual growth and sabbath times.
