St. Matthew Lutheran Church is seeking a part-time music and worship leader to join our staff.  The Director of Music provides leadership and oversight of St. Matthew’s music ministry.  This includes serving as organist, director of an adult choir and supporting our Sunday School teachers with music related activities.  The Director of Music works in collaboration with the Pastoral Staff in worship planning.  The Director of Music is a person of faith, with excellent people and communication skills, and the ability to foster a joyful music making environment.  A Bachelor’s degree in music, concentrated study in organ and church music, or significant church music experience is required.  Previous experience in music education or vocal instruction would also be beneficial.

This part-time position is for 20 hours per week.  It includes two Sunday worship services during fall, winter, and spring and one Sunday worship service during the summer months.  There are additional Lenten and summer midweek services, plus Christmas Eve and Easter holiday worship services.  There is a weekly adult choir rehearsal on Wednesday evenings, although currently, the choir is on hiatus due to Covid concerns.  Consistent with St. Matthew’s Mission (Reaching Out, Digging Deep, and Changing Lives), the Director of Music also assists in creating, planning, and executing occasional music events to which the general public is invited.

St. Matthew’s Casavant 2 manual, 19 rank pipe organ was custom designed and built for the acoustics of our sanctuary.  A 5’10” Kawai baby grand piano is also available in the sanctuary.
