Kings Grant Presbyterian Church (KGPC), located in the Little Neck Peninsula of Virginia Beach, is seeking a dynamic and talented music leader to help us sustain and expand our exceptional music ministry. We desire an innovative and energetic individual to motivate and inspire the many dedicated musicians in our congregation, and to provide music to enhance our traditional, contemporary, and blended worship services. Duties and Responsibilities Leadership
• Conduct and direct all adult choirs during rehearsals, Sunday worship services, and special services (Sanctuary Choir, Praise Team, Adult Bells, Youth Bells and Men’s Chorus groups)
• Provide Piano and/or organ music for weekly worship services
• Prepare all traditional and praise team music each week and distribute
equipment/music to musicians and singers in a timely manner
• Oversees Director of Children’s Choirs
• Oversee care and maintenance of church instruments and music equipment to include
the tuning, maintenance, replacement, and/or purchase of new musical instruments
• Research new music to provide fresh and expanding repertoire to the congregation as
well as the choirs/praise team
• Responsible for all music associated with worship in coordination with the Pastor
• Responsible for hiring, scheduling, and securing compensation for professional
musicians for special music events to include accompanists and substitute musicians
• Responsible for maintaining and expanding the church music/choral library
• Supervise the music ministry support staff, both paid and volunteer
 • Meet with families, plan, and play music for wedding and funerals
• Seek opportunities to engage in joint musical activities with other churches in the
community

   Communication and Collaboration
• Work with the Pastor and Worship Ministry to plan and coordinate music for weekly worship services and special services (including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, and other services)
• Communicate with sound and AV team members to enhance the music worship experience through digital and virtual platforms, including, but not limited to social media
• Coordinate the weekly bulletin and worship visuals with office staff and volunteers and review them for accuracy.
  Teaching and Mentoring
Administrative
• Cultivate musical gifts by identifying and encouraging special music offerings from the congregation, helping with music selection and rehearsals
• Recruit, train, and nurture all who participate in the music programs
• Serve as a resource person for various church programs (including Pre-School, religious
education, and Youth Ministry programs)
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the music part of the Worship Ministry’s budget
• Order, purchase, and authorize payment for music and supplies
• Prepare monthly report for and attend Worship & Music Ministry meetings, as well as
weekly staff meetings
• Maintain accurate record keeping for copyright permissions and subscriptions to CCLI,
One License and Chorister’s Guild to allow the legal use of published materials
• Stay up to date with the best practices in music/media ministries locally, regionally, and
nationally (conferences and affiliations with other churches and universities)
• Responsible for Carillon maintenance and schedule
• Perform other duties as required to enhance the music ministry
  Education, Experience, and Required Skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music
• Competency in conducting/leading traditional vocal/bell choirs, praise band,
  instrumentalists
• Knowledge of both traditional and contemporary religious music styles
• Strong keyboard skills (i.e., accompanying hymns and praise band, leading rehearsals)
required
• Possess 3+ years in fields of music and worship
• Accomplished organist – preferred. 1984 Wick’s Pipe Organ (17 ranks)
• Demonstrated understanding of reformed worship and sacraments

• A spirit inspired Christian with a strong faith who is committed to fostering joy through music, who is enthusiastic and creative in music education and ministries
• Effective and inspirational choir leader and musical coach able to relate with people of all generations and varying abilities
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to follow through and to appropriately delegate tasks
• Ability to anticipate problems and formulate creative solutions
• Accessible and responsive to pastoral and other staff, church leaders and community
members; a team player willing to adapt and pivot to coordinate other’s needs
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude
 • Consistently exhibit effective interpersonal communication skills by clearly conveying expectations and priorities to volunteers

  Compensation and Benefits
This full-time position reports to the pastor. Salary range is between $50,000-$60,000 annually. The generous benefit package includes health care, up to four weeks vacation and two weeks continuing education, PCUSA Board of Pensions benefits, and a 403B retirement savings plan.
