DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRY

Job Description: The Director of Music Ministry position is a part time position twelve months of the year. The DMM reports directly to the Pastor and Pastoral Associate and collaborates closely with the Pastor, and Parish Pastoral Staff.

The goals for the Director of Music Ministry are:
-to foster a prayerful, singing assembly through celebration, preparation, and evaluation built upon continuing education and personal ministry and vocation
-with the cooperation and assistance of all the parish ministers, the Director of Music Ministry will support the gospel message through song and challenge the assembly to live it more fully
-to develop a plan to expand participation in all Music Ministries including Liturgical Choirs (Adult/Children/Family) and instrumentalists
-to enhance the reflective and prayerful execution of instrumental and choral/solo musical selections
-to further develop the community’s diverse musical repertoire with an emphasis on the Gospel genre as expressed in publications such as Lead Me Guide Me

Duties and Responsibilities:
-The Director of Music Ministry will be responsible for all music associated with worship at the 5pm (Vigil), 9am and 11am Liturgies
-Coordinate and schedule all musicians (Cantor/Choir/Instrumentalists) and ensure quality of musical performance
-Weekly rehearsals with Adult Choir (currently Tuesday from 7 – 8:30pm) and coordination with the Director of Religious Education to plan Children’s Choir and Family Choir Rehearsals as necessary
-Designing weekly, seasonal, and/or special occasion worship aids
-Recruit, arrange, and coordinate special volunteer musicians for Christmas and Holy Week/Easter celebrations, as well as conduct rehearsals and arrange music as necessary for these musicians
-Provides a visible, accessible presence at parish events and demonstrates an interest and concern for the tastes and faith expressions of parishioners
-The Director of Music Ministry will be responsible to attend pastoral staff meetings (weekly)
-Other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by the pastor.

Job Specific Requirements:
Any musician at St. Francis De Sales must:
-Display strong musical ability including improvisational skills
-Be able to direct and accompany soloists and choir in a wide variety of genres of Sacred Music
-Participate in the overall good of the Music Ministry and Parish Community by being present at important Parish Events.
-Be available for Holy Days and Special Masses including: Christmas Eve and/or Day, Holy Week (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday), Parish celebration of the Sacraments of 1st Communion and Confirmation, Weddings and Funerals (as scheduled)
