Director of Music Ministry/Organist (Monroe, CT)
The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for ensuring quality, prayerful music for liturgies at St. Jude Parish.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Play organ and/or piano and cantor at our three Sunday morning Masses
· Select the liturgically appropriate music for our liturgies, keeping in mind the readings and the liturgical seasons
· Rehearse with and direct our Adult Choir
· Develop a Children’s Choir, rehearse with and direct
· Be available to provide music for funerals and weddings (includes meeting with families and aiding them in selecting music), receives a stipend from the family for playing at the Mass
· Arrange for extra musicians and/or singers for special feast days (when applicable)
· Organize and perform Advent Lessons & Carols for the parish
· Provide music for our special feasts and celebrations, including but not limited to:
- Ash Wednesday
- Easter Triduum
- Christmas
- Sacramental celebrations such as Confirmations and First Communions
- Holy Days of Obligation (Ascension Thursday, All Saints Day, Immaculate Conception, Assumption of Mary, Mary the Mother of God)
- Possible other times could include Lenten Mission, Corpus Christi Procession, or other liturgical or paraliturgical celebrations
· Communicate appropriately with the Saturday Vigil music group
· Attend staff or parish council meetings as requested
· Ensure all copyright licensing and usage reporting to the major music publishers
· Maintain and expand current Music Library.
