Job Description: 

The Director of Music is responsible for the vision, content, and performance of the music ministry for all masses at Holy Trinity and serves as an organist for its renowned Bach Vespers ministry.

Position Requirements:

  • Friendly, people-oriented attitude, and an ability to collaborate easily with the Pastor, staff colleagues, congregational leadership, lay members, musicians, and partner organizations

  • Exceptional keyboard, choral conducting, and improvisation skills

  • Keen interest in serving as a congregational leader, which includes fostering confidence in Holy Trinity’s music ministry and strengthening relationships with musicians and partner organizations

  • Top-notch organizational and time management skills, with an acute attention to detail

  • Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Drive, Mailchimp, Zoom, and various social media products; ability to learn and use the church database as well as any new software required

  • Understanding of the necessity to maintain and protect confidential information

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; must be able to lift up to 20 pounds

    Primary responsibilities:

  • Successfully rehearse and serve as the primary organist and musician for all Sunday morning masses and all additional services as required (i.e., Holy Week, Christmas Eve, etc.)

  • Serve as one of the organists (service playing and/or continuo) for Bach Vespers

  • Recruit, mentor, and conduct a Parish Choir consisting of paid SATB scholars and volunteers. The Parish Choir sings for all Sunday morning Masses from the Sunday after Labor Day through Trinity

  • Serve as and/or recruit a volunteer music librarian and oversee that work

  • Perform various administrative tasks, including responding to emails, reviewing bulletins for accuracy, attending a weekly staff meeting, overseeing the payment of staff singers, submitting relevant invoices for payment, and contributing to Holy Trinity’s newsletter and social media accounts on a regular basis

  • Participating in Sunday coffee hours and other parish community-building events on a regular basis

  • Other duties as assigned

    Hours: The Director of Music is a year-round, half-time position. The Sunday schedule is approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m; Bach Vespers is typically Saturdays 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Sundays 3 - 7:00 p.m. for an average of 10 weekends per year, October through April; all remaining hours are flexible. While the position averages 20 hours per week, the weeks surrounding Christmas and Easter will require more, while the summer will require less.

    Compensation: The Director of Music is a salaried, W-2 position with a total compensation of $30,000 paid at approximately $1,150 biweekly over 26 pay periods. While benefits are not ordinarily included, we are willing to negotiate benefits into the overall reward package if desired.
