Job Description:

The Interim Music Minister, collaborating with the Rector, is responsible for the musical content of all liturgies of Trinity Episcopal Church, and for encouraging all ages within the parish to use and develop their gifts for praising God through musical expression.  The Interim Music Minister works collegially with the staff, with lay leaders, with Choir members, and with worship planning groups.

Responsibilities:

In consultation with the Rector and the music team, the Interim Music Minister provides music selection, direction, programming and coordination for Sunday Worship and major feasts of the liturgical year. The Minister provides timely updates to the Communications Director for publication in the Service Bulletin and on the church website.

Music offered will contribute meaningfully to worship – whether through singers, organ, piano,  a cappella or instrumental music. Music offered will be consistent with the Church season and with the direction and focus of Trinity Church’s ministry and outreach. Music offered will be sensitive to the values of the parish, including cultural diversity, major events in the community, and musical capabilities of congregation and choirs.

The Interim will provide the basic musical components of the worship service. Specifically, a Prelude, an Offertory, and a Postlude will be included in each service, their titles and composer to be printed in the service bulletin.

The Interim Music Minister shall recruit, rehearse and conduct group or solo singers with one rehearsal per week during the interim period.

The Interim Music Minister shall encourage and nurture congregational singing in the Sunday 9:30 AM Service and other services, especially as the parish re-gathers after pandemic and needs support in singing.

The Interim Music Minister shall with sensitivity blend musical genres; selecting music for worship that incorporates contemporary selections which are new, innovative, fresh and creative as well as the traditional music of the Episcopal Church tradition.

The Interim Music Minister will work within the Safe Church practices set forth by the Episcopal Church in Connecticut.

The Interim Music Minister demonstrates proficiency with the piano and organ in playing the service music; preparation for worship is expected.

Interim Music Minister has ‘right of first refusal’ to serve as musician for funerals and weddings held in the parish. Compensation to be determined for each service.
