Position:         Director of Music Ministry

Hours:            12-15 per week

Purpose:

To develop and lead SAPC’s worship music ministry, in coordination with our Pastor, in a way that reflects our mission, values and theology. 

Responsibilities:

  • Select and plan music for Sunday and midweek services, and lead weekly rehearsals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Pastor and Worship Committee on creative worship design that integrates music and liturgy.
  • Actively recruit, equip and motivate singers and musicians from within the congregation.
  • Develop and lead musical teams and ensembles, which may include a Senior Choir, Handbell Choir and Junior Choir.
  • Plan and provide music for weddings, funerals and other special events as needed.
  • Participate in the life and ministry of the church.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the church’s musical instruments.
  • Organize and maintain a library of music for the church.
  • Provide qualified substitutes during periods of paid absences.

Qualifications:

  • Strong and active Christian faith.
  • Attested musical skills and competence.
  • A team player with a positive attitude.
  • Committed to the church’s vision and people.
  • Works well with people of all ages and levels of musical experience.
  • Masters-level training in music preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in church-related settings preferred.

Musical Competencies:

  • Ability in a wide range of musical styles, including traditional and contemporary hymns.
  • Ability to lead worship.
  • Ability to conduct and accompany a choir.
  • Professional quality piano and organ player.

Vacation & Other Privileges:

  • Five Sundays per year of paid vacation with prior authorization of the Pastor and the Session.
  • Two paid Sunday absences due to sickness or personal reasons.
  • Organ and piano teaching privileges at times suitable to the church schedule.
