Job Description:

St. James’s Episcopal Church, West Hartford, Connecticut, an active, welcoming parish with a long tradition of excellence in choral music, seeks a full-time organist/choirmaster. The position is immediately available. Duties include:  training and leading a treble choir of girls and boys and rehearsing and leading an adult choir of volunteers and paid section leaders, both of which participate in regular Sunday service and on special occasions. The music program of St. James’s plays a vital role in the life of the parish, and the choir of trebles is especially important in the recruitment and education of young people. In recent years the program has included outreach into the community through recitals, concerts, and other musical events. A 1962 Austin three-manual pipe organ has recently been updated and completely restored (https://stjameswh.org/assets/files/About-the-Organ.pdf) and is available for teaching, as is the Steinway piano in the choir room.

Salary is to be negotiated on the basis of education and musical experience; full medical insurance as well as pension and other benefits are included. The Diocese of Connecticut and St. James’s are equal-opportunity employers.

Interested parties should send a resume to The Rev. Robert C. Hooper, III, at rector@stjameswh.org, or 19 Walden Street, West Hartford, CT, 06107. For more information go to https://stjameswh.org.
