Job Description:

First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama (PCUSA) is in search of an Organist.  The position is salaried at three-quarter time and has full benefits.

Applicants should have a minimum of two years of experience as a church musician, a Bachelor of Music degree (Master of Music preferred), and demonstrable abilities in hymn playing, sight reading, open score reading, and improvisation.  Strong administrative skills, plus the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing are also required.

Responsibilities include accompanying the 35 member Sanctuary Choir (including staff/scholarship singers - adults), the Youth Choir (grades 6-12), the Chapel Choir (grades 3-5), and directing two Handbell Choirs (Youth and Adult).  There are two weekly services during the program year, and the Organist co-chairs an organ recital series committee.

The congregation appreciates a wide variety of classically-based musical styles, and the children’s and youth choirs follow the Royal School of Church Music training program.  Our three-manual, 75-rank Létourneau Pipe Organ (Opus 129) was completed for the Sanctuary in 2016, and a new Phoenix digital electronic organ (Skinner samples) will be installed in the Chapel in 2021.
