Carol Williams (A.D. ’97)

October 7, 2013

Carol Williams is based in San Diego, and is the Seventh Civic Organist of the city. She has been the Civic Organist since 2001. She is the first woman to hold such a position in the USA. The organ has been operating since 1915 and there are major plans for the 100th Anniversary. Her duties as Civic Organist are to play weekly Sunday afternoon concerts. She is also the Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society, which hosts an annual International Summer Organ Festival.  Dr. Williams’ concerts at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion have included many unusual projects - recently she performed a twelve hour marathon concert in aid of wounded war veterans and raised over $15,000. This December, she will perform a five hour benefit concert for the American Red Cross.  Carol is also the Organist in Residence of St. Paul’s Cathedral in San Diego. Her concerts have taken her all over the USA and Europe.  For the 100th Anniversary of the Spreckels Organ in Balboa Park, San Diego, Dr Williams will be, on behalf of the Spreckels Organ Society, commissioning works from leading composers to celebrate the historic occasion of the instrument.
