The Yale Institute of Sacred Music is hosting several concerts this holiday season, all of which are free and open to the public. No tickets are needed for any of the concerts listed below but all are popular, so we advise an early arrival.

On Saturday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m., Yale Camerata’s annual Advent Concert will be performed in Woolsey Hall. “His Star Shining Bright”, conducted by Dr. Felicia Barber, will include works by Bach, Rutter, Adams, Patriquin, Southall, Robles, James, Thomas and Goss. View the full program here. The concert will also be livestreamed at this link.

On Sunday, December 4 at 1:30 p.m., the Yale Glee Club, featuring the Yale Symphony Orchestra and soloists from the Yale School of Music and the Institute of Sacred Music, will present its annual Handel’s Messiah Audience Sing-along in Battell Chapel. There is a suggested donation of $10 and scores will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds go to benefit New Haven’s homeless. Read more here.

On December 10 in Woolsey Hall, join Yale Schola Cantorum for Bach’s Christmas Oratorio conducted by David Hill. View the full program here. Yale Schola Cantorum is a chamber choir sponsored by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music that performs sacred music from the sixteenth century to the present day in concert settings and choral services around the world.  A 6:30 p.m. pre-concert lecture, “Sacred Love Songs and Royal Jubilation: Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and its History” will be offered by Professor Markus Rathey in Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, room 114. Rathey is the Robert S. Tangeman Professor in the Practice of Music History at Yale.
