<p><strong>Music Director – St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Madison, CT</strong></p> <p><strong>Reports to – the Rector</strong></p> <p><strong>Status – halftime (20 hours/week)</strong></p> <p><strong>Begins – September 1, 2022</strong></p> <p><strong>Annual Salary - $22,000 - $27,000</strong></p> <p>St. Andrew’s seeks an accomplished musician and enthusiastic leader to serve as its next Music Director and Organist. In collaboration with the clergy of the parish, the Music Director will create an inspirational and expansive music program which enhances liturgy and invites engagement in the congregation and wider community. The Director will be adept in a variety of musical styles, honoring the traditional Anglican repertoire and exploring diverse and newer expressions.</p> <p><strong>Essential functions and responsibilities </strong></p> <ul> <li> Plan and provide music for weekly Sunday services, the principal feasts in the liturgical year, and occasional special events, engaging soloists and instrumentalists as needed.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Versatility in both traditional and more contemporary musical styles.<br /> </li> <li> Plan and lead rehearsals of the choir. Revitalize, motivate, guide, and challenge participants of varied skill levels, encouraging participation by people of all ages.<br /> </li> <li> Implement new and diverse musical offerings to energize and inspire existing and new congregants, including youth and children.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Administer the music program, including but not limited to - preparation of an annual budget, purchase of music and other materials, coordination of instrument maintenance, arrangements for substitute organists in case of absence, weekly submission of music details for service bulletins, and assistance with preparation of bulletins for special events.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Lead a weeklong summer music/arts immersion day camp for children.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Required skills and experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li> Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music Experience</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Accomplished organist and pianist with experience in providing music in a liturgical context. Familiarity with Anglican liturgy is preferred but not required.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Experience leading choirs composed of members with varied abilities.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> A collaborative spirit and collegial disposition.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> A desire to work alongside clergy and lay leaders to discern the promptings of the Holy Spirit in forging the shared life of the parish.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Excellent communication and administrative skills.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Compensation</strong> includes a salary ranging from $22,000 to $27,000 depending on education and experience, 4 weeks vacation time, a retirement benefit, and support for continuing education/career development.</p> <p>Additional compensation is provided for weddings and funerals.</p> <p><strong>About St. Andrew’s</strong></p> <p>St. Andrew’s is a pastoral sized congregation in the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, located in Madison, a shoreline town. The mission statement of the parish describes it as “A community inspired by Christ to love our neighbors, act justly and walk humbly with God.” Music is integral to the congregation’s shared life.</p> <p>During the COVID-19 pandemic the parish has demonstrated resilience and adaptability. However, some facets of our music ministry have necessarily lain dormant. While in-person services have resumed the choir has not re-formed. The congregation anticipates with joy the return of the choir under the leadership of the new director.</p> <p><strong>The Organ and other instruments</strong></p> <p>The sanctuary has a Southfield Opus 31 two manual pipe organ (1997) with two separated Great and Swell divisions in the front of the church, and an antiphonal division (2001) in the rear of the church. There is also an electronic piano/harpsichord in the sanctuary that is used during contemporary worship services.
