Job Title: Organist
Organization Name: St. Peter’s Church (Episcopal)
Organization Website: www.stpeterscheshire.org
Job Description:
St. Peter’s Church, Cheshire CT. is seeking a part-time organist to begin
Sep.1, 2018.
St. Peter’s offers a vibrant multi-generational choral music program in the
Anglican tradition with a chorister program for children and youth and a
parish choir for adults and older youth. The organist will be an essential
part of the ministry of the choirs working closely with the Minister of Music
and the Rector.

Salary Range (optional): $12,000

Organ: Two-manual 1960’s Casavant with its original and restored two-manual
stop tab console in the Gallery, with choir seating available. Two years ago,
the entire organ was cleaned and re-leathered. More recently, we installed a
three-manual Moeller console near choir seating in the front of the church.
While both consoles interact with the full Swell, Great, and Pedal divisions,
the newest console enables a multitude of manual coupling possibilities, not
available before, at 16’, 8’, and 4’ pitches.  In addition, the choir
manual allows for extra solo settings, using the already-existing pipework.

  Responsibilities:
•       Under the direction of the Minister of Music, play the organ and/or
piano for the primary Sunday service at 10:00 AM (9:30 AM during summer),
including a prelude, postlude, hymns, choral accompaniments and incidental
music, as requested.
•       Provide accompaniment for choir practice on Wednesday evenings.
•       Play the organ and/or piano at special rehearsals, with adequate
prior
notice, by the Minister of Music, in support of usual or special worship
events.
•       Play the organ and/or piano for special worship events, including
Christmas Eve, Holy Week and Easter, as mutually agreed upon with the
Minister of Music and ministerial staff.
•       Recommend preludes, postludes, special music, or hymns as requested
by
the Minister of Music or ministerial staff.
•       Has first option to play for funerals and weddings held at the
church.
•       Oversee care and maintenance of the organ and other church
instruments
within budgetary limits.
•       Recommend substitute and guest musicians to the Minister of Music,
as
appropriate, when the Organist must be absent.

Prerequisites:
•       Knowledge and skill in service playing (especially in leading
congregational song) and a varied organ repertoire appropriate for services
throughout the church year.
•       Skill in choral, solo, and instrumental accompaniment.
•       The candidate must also possess good verbal and written
communication
skills.
•       Must adequately pass a standard background check.

Compensation:
The salary for this position is currently set at $12,000.00 with four weeks
vacation (five Sundays) annually.  The organist shall be permitted to use
the facilities of the institution (organ and pianos) for private teaching.
Additional compensation is provided for playing for weddings and funerals.
