Job description: Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church located in New Haven, CT is seeking a trained and spiritually grounded Organist/Pianist to serve as Minister of Music. This individual will provide musical leadership that supports and enhances the worship experience of our congregation. Primary Responsibilities Serve as principal organist and pianist for regular worship services, special services, and church events Plan, coordinate, and lead music in collaboration with the Pastor Provide musical direction that reflects and honors the tradition of the African-American Church Support a diverse musical repertoire including hymns, traditional and contemporary gospel, and anthems Develop, rehearse, and oversee choirs and vocal ensembles Work collaboratively with other musicians, singers, and guest artists Encourage musical growth and participation within the congregation Qualifications Demonstrated experience working within the African-American church tradition Strong proficiency in organ and piano performance Knowledge of a broad range of church music styles (hymns, gospel, contemporary worship, anthems) Ability to read music is preferred Experience directing or developing choirs is highly desirable Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills Commitment to the mission and worship life of the church Compensation Salary is negotiable and commensurate with the applicant’s training, education, and experience.
