Black Sacred Arts conference underway in Ghana

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music’s annual Black Sacred Arts conference is underway this week at the University of Ghana in Legon, Accra. “Religion at the Crossroads: Africa’s Creative and Spiritual Heritage” began with a vibrant performance by the Ghana Dance Ensemble, which set the tone for a gathering that celebrates the rich intersections of faith, art, music, and culture. Now in its fifth year, the conference is being held on the African continent for the first time, bringing together scholars, artists, and practitioners to explore Africa’s enduring spiritual traditions and their global influence. Opening remarks from leaders of Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music, the University of Ghana’s College of Humanities, and the Institute of African Studies highlighted the importance of collaboration and the significance of convening these conversations in Ghana.
