Event Description:

In the Round is a site-specific ritual that explores how sound can suspend, sustain, and transform sacred space and time.

Your participation is clutch:

Right now through Friday, May 7th at 3:30pm EDT, you can offer a recorded sounding that responds to the following prompt:

Offer a sounding* that your ancestors and successors need to receive right now.”

*A sounding can be a breath, a whisper, a murmur, a song, a shout...human or otherwise.

Participation is open to all students, alumni, staff, and faculty of Yale Divinity School and the Institute of Sacred Music.

Working alongside a sound engineer from Yale School of Drama, we will use time-based effects pedals and computers to play with, explore, and unfurl our soundings. Our sacred space is Nouwen Chapel, full of furniture removed from the library to engineer social distancing.

Call & Response

In order to close the loop of the call and response formation of this project, the live-sounded ritual will physically center around maple sap from the DivFarm, which will then be parceled out as an offering in return to those who participate in In the Round.
