Special Event | Georgian Chant Masterclass and Public Workshop

5-6 PM Masterclass
Visting artists from the Anchiskhati ensemble will coach the Yale Georgian Chant Group directed by ISM Fellow John A. Graham in the finer nuances of the peculiar vocal production prized among practitioners of Georgian traditional polyphonic singing. The dense harmony and lyric melodies of Orthodox liturgical singing from the Caucasus is a prized vocal form among connoisseurs of global a cappella traditions.

6-7 PM Public Workshop
Immediately following the masterclass, the visiting artists will lead an open-ended workshop on folk songs, instrumentals, and dance. Participants will learn to sing in close harmony using simple word sheets to guide our pronunciation of Georgian-language texts. All are welcome.
