Summary:

The Music Director, as a professional musician, organist, keyboardist, and vocalist, provides musical leadership, supervises the parish music activities and the music ministers.  The Music Director assures that other music leaders are available for church liturgies when the Music Director does not cover them.  Work is performed under the administrative supervision of the Pastor or Parish Manager.  Supervision is exercised over music leaders and music volunteers.

 

Functions/Responsibilities:

· Accompanies, with piano, organ, or guitar, liturgical services and leads the congregation in song.

· Develops and coordinates music to enhance the liturgical experience.

· Suggests and coordinates the music being used at all liturgical services.

· Selects, rehearses, and leads music for major liturgical holidays.

· Remains current in liturgical music through professional journals and educational conferences

· Strives to improve the quality of the playing and singing of all music volunteers, music leaders, and self through training and workshops.

· Works within approval procedures and allocated budget for operating expenses

· Supervises or coordinates rehearsals for choirs, groups, or music leaders.

· Supervises musical performances of outside musical groups or individuals invited to perform

· Hires and trains musicians for music leader positions when necessary. All personnel action recommendations shall be subject to approval by the Pastor or Parish Manager.

· Recruit volunteers for choir, instrumental, and cantor positions.

· Approves payments for all music leaders inside and outside of the parish.

· Develops and maintains lists of competent music leaders, from within and outside of the parish, to lead music at weddings and funerals held at the parish.

· Develops and maintains the sections pertaining to music of the church wedding and funeral procedural documents.

· Develops and maintains musicians' handbooks for the sound system and church procedures, including payment requests and other related items.

· Maintains lists of music leaders and substitutes inside and outside the parish.

· Attend liturgy committee meetings when scheduled.
