From August 29–September 2, 2023, the Yale Institute of Sacred Music will hold auditions for the 2023-24 season for Yale Schola Cantorum, Yale Camerata, Yale Recital Chorus, Yale Repertory Chorus, and other chapel choruses. Yale students, faculty, and staff, and members of the New Haven community, are invited to register. Auditions will take place in the Great Hall at Yale Divinity School, 409 Prospect St. New Haven at the following times:
- Aug 29: 1-8 p.m.
- Aug 30: 1-9 p.m.
- Aug 31: 1-8 p.m.
- Sept 1: 1-8 p.m.
- Sept 2: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Singers are invited to prepare a short solo song or aria (accompanist provided) and will be led through a few simple vocal exercises demonstrating range and musicianship skills. Only one audition is required to be considered for membership in multiple ISM choral ensembles.
What you need to do
- Fill out this questionnaire (you will receive an email with a confirmed audition time within 48 hours).
- Prepare your short solo or aria and bring one copy of the music with you for the provided accompanist.

Ensembles
Dr. Felicia Barber, conductor
- Choral ensemble of approximately 70 singers, with a special commitment to new choral music, open to experienced singers from the Yale and New Haven communities.
- 2023–2024 performances include a fall concert in October, the annual Advent concert in early December, a combined concert with the Yale Glee Club in February, and Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem with the Yale Symphony Orchestra and Yale Glee Club in April 2024.
- Open to Yale students, faculty, staff, and greater New Haven community
- Course credit available to graduate students
David Hill, principal conductor; Masaaki Suzuki, principal guest conductor
- Internationally renowned chamber choir, performing sacred music from the 16th century to the present day, with a special interest in historically informed performance practice
- 2023–2024 performances include evensong at Christ Church, and several fall and spring concerts in Woolsey Hall conducted by David Hill or Maasaki Suzuki. This season’s guest musicians are Juilliard415 and the Danish National Vocal Ensemble. Repertoire includes John Rutter’s Gloria, and Bach’s Mass in B Minor.
