Teresa Berger reflects on path of Catholic liturgy at Austria conference

December 18, 2023

Professor Teresa Berger, professor of Liturgical Studies and the Thomas E. Golden Jr. Professor of Catholic Theology at the ISM and Yale Divinity School, spoke this week at a conference in Austria on the path of Catholic liturgy in the twenty-first century.

Taking as a point of departure the sixtieth anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (December 4, 1963), she is explored ways in which liturgical life will—and will have to be—different from what both Sacrosanctum Concilium and the post-conciliar liturgical reforms were able to imagine. Her talk envisioned the contours of Catholic liturgy in, and for, a world markedly different from that of 1963.

The conference was held at the University of Innsbruck.
