Job Description:
St. Matthew Lutheran Church is seeking a part-time music and worship leader
to join our staff.   The Director of Music provides leadership and oversight
of St. Matthew’s music ministry.  This includes serving as organist and
director of adult choir and children’s music program, as well as the
supervision, guidance, and support of volunteer leaders in the music program.
  The Director of Music works in collaboration with the Pastoral Staff in
worship planning.  The Director of Music is a person of faith, with excellent
people and communication skills, and the ability to foster a joyful music
making environment.  A Bachelor’s degree in music, concentrated study in
organ and church music, or significant church-music experience is required.
Previous experience in music education or vocal instruction would also be
beneficial.

Hours per week:
20 hours per week which includes worship services, weekly choir practice on
Wednesday evenings (except in summer), and a weekly staff meeting.

Services per week:
There are two Sunday worship services during spring, fall, and winter and one
Sunday worship service during summer months.  There are additional Lenten and
summer midweek services, plus Christmas and Easter holiday worship services.

Choir/other ensembles:
The position includes direct leadership of one adult choir as well as
oversight of the children’s music program.  The Music Director involves
church member musicians regularly, and occasionally coordinates guest
soloists and paid instrumentalists.

Instruments: St. Matthew’s Casavant 2 manual, 19 rank pipe organ was custom
designed and built for the acoustics of our sanctuary.  A 5’10’ Kawai
baby grand piano was recently purchased for the sanctuary.

Salary range: $20,000 - $32,000 annually, depending on degrees attained,
training, and experience.
