An evening of music and conversation exploring their musical journeys and the crossovers between the musical languages of Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Emily and Don Saliers are daughter and father with independent musical careers who collaborated in writing A SONG TO SING, A LIFE TO LIVE. Since then they have performed a series of musical conversations around the United States and Canada.
Emily is best known as one-half of the Grammy Award-winning Indigo Girls, celebrated for their tireless work for justice and for their many musical collaborations in work for Native Americans, Habitat for Humanity, Honor the Earth, as well as for gay rights, and anti-war activism. Recently Emily worked with a women’s prison choir in producing a CD at the Atlanta Metro State Prison.
After earning his Ph.D. in theology at Yale, Don taught at Yale Divinity School before moving to Emory University where he has taught for the past 33 years. In addition to publishing widely in the fields of theology, liturgy and music, Don is a composer of liturgical music and is an accomplished keyboard player, with both a classical and jazz background.
The concert at Battell Chapel will feature several of Emily’s songs, some of Don’s liturgical music, and conversation around the themes of music and justice, music and suffering, and their ongoing discussion of “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning” musical cross-overs.
As they say, “come prepared to sing and join the conversation.”
The concert, presented by Yale Institute of Sacred Music, is free and open to the public.
