Position Description: This is a full-time, non-exempt position with Chancel (adult) Choir, Concert Handbell Choir and Church Organist responsibilities being primary. Provides leadership, direction, oversight as well as continuing development of the church’s music and arts ministry. Facilitates the opportunity for a variety of Christ-centered music, visual arts, dance and drama activities, with support of the Music and Arts Team of the Session (comprised of church members). Lines of Authority: Reports to the Senior Pastor / Head of Staff. Primary staff resource to the Music and Arts Team of the Session.

Responsibilities:

  • Select and prepare music for worship and related activities in consultation with the Senior Pastor / Head of Staff

  • Conduct weekly rehearsals during the church program year and additional rehearsals as needed

  • Plan and organize music and arts events in consultation with the Music and Arts Team of

    the Session and the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff, including:

    • Weekly Sunday services

    • Special music and arts events other than Sunday worship

    • Special requests, including but not limited to providing music for weddings and funerals

  • Arrange for vocalists, accompanists and instrumentalists as needed

  • Oversee the maintenance of the music library

  • Procure music, music supplies and related items

  • Develop and manage an annual budget with input from the Music and Arts Team of the Session

  • Assure regular maintenance of all instruments entrusted to the care of the church

  • Arrange for a replacement Director and/or organist when absent

  • Manage the Choral Fellow Program, including but not limited to recruitment, development, and scholarship

    opportunities for studying musicians

  • Recruit and welcome new choral and bell choir members

  • Attend staff and Session meetings

 

Qualifications:

  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor degree (masters preferred)

  • Minimum of 5 years of position-related experience

  • Demonstrated competence as a choral director

  • Demonstrated proficiency on organ and piano **

  • Experience and competence as a handbell choir director preferred

  • Ability to fulfill the duties of the position in a cordial and collaborative manner while working with church staff, membership and choirs in support of the church vision, goals and ministries

  • Working knowledge of Christian worship practices

  • Knowledge of musical and vocal techniques, theory, and performance

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire choir members and musicians

  • Ability to develop and oversee all budgetary requirements for the Music and Arts Ministry

** Our desire is to find a candidate that possesses exceptional conducting and organ / piano accompanying skills. Notwithstanding, a separate organist / accompanist could be accommodated.

 

Minimum Effective Salary: $60,000-75,000 (with full benefits)
