Minister of Music (New York, NY)

Broadway United Church of Christ is a small and dynamic congregation in New York City. We are theologically progressive, musically engaged, and diverse in our tastes. We are looking for a part time Minister of Music to: 

• Collaborate with the senior pastor and worship team in planning and executing all worship services. 
• Lead, recruit, and support the choir and instrumentalists (both pro and volunteer), and ensure that all music is prepared (licensed/downloaded/emailed to team/printed for service) to provide a well-executed, diverse, and inspiring experience for the congregation, with a focus on inclusivity in language and theology.
•  Accompany the choir and congregation on organ and piano.
•   Other tasks as requested.   

   Qualifications:

• Love and respect for a diverse community.
• Progressive values that support an end to racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.
• Attested musical skills and competence.
• Ability to produce music using a wide range of traditions including Christian hymnody and congregational song, Western/Classical choral, Gospel, contemporary and other culturally diverse music.
• Ability to recruit, organize, and motivate musicians.
• Sense of humor and positive attitude.
• Strong collaborator with the rest of the staff and congregation.
• Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, and creative.

 We meet every Sunday at 5pm, with occasional special events. Special Services typically include:

• Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday. The choir meets weekly to rehearse prior to service at 3:30pm. Staff meets weekly via zoom (Tuesday @ 11am) and occasionally in person.
