 At Bolton Congregational Church United Church of Christ (BCCUCC) we believe that each individual reflects aspects of God and that we can only begin to resemble the full glory of God when we embrace diversity in our worship and engage in service to our community. We wish that our music program reflects this core value. BCCUCC prides itself in offering high quality music from a wide range of genres and styles. We are proud of our organ and enjoy the traditional sacred music written for it as well as other musical genres and instruments. We are willing and hoping to expand our music ministry with the introduction of other contemporary styles and instruments.

The Director of Music should possess the skills, knowledge and passion that will support the musical and artistic expression of BCCUCC vision and values. And should strive for excellence in the production of the music program in all aspects of our church community.

We are currently looking to fill our part time 15 hour per week Director of Music position with a candidate who is passionate about not only music, but about cultivating young minds in various musical forms.

We are seeking an individual that is willing and able to perform the various functions of the Music Director Position as outlined below.

Generally:

  • In Concert with the Pastoral team, select appropriate music and instruments for Sunday, and any special services in either the Sanctuary, or Chandler Hall.
  • Participate in the creative planning of the Sunday and special services with the pastoral team including but not limited to securing various instrumentalists to enhance the services.
  • Provide music for Sunday, and any special services in either the Sanctuary, or Chandler Hall. This may include special services such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunrise, Christmas Eve potentially including a mid day service and midnight service, Christmas Day, etc. Schedule of services will vary year to year, and shall be discussed at the annual review of the Director of Music.
  • Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise and shepherd music team members and musicians including making recommendations for increasing the music program and ensembles.
  • Conduct and lead weekly, Mid Week night time practice for all choirs and ensembles to prepare in advance all music offerings. Currently Choir practice is to be held on Wednesday evenings to accommodate the schedules of all participants, as well as increase potential for individuals with families to be able to participate.
  • Communicate faithfully with the Senior Pastor and staff.
  • Participate in the life and ministry of the church.
  • Participate in periodic furthering education opportunities to increase knowledge and strength of the ministry for which you are a part.

Administrative

  •  Select music for all anthems, offertory, and special services and communicate all selections to the church office 2-3 weeks prior to service.
  • Select various instrumentalists for all special services that range in professional musicians as well as congregational members.
  • Strive for excellence in all avenues of the ministry program including periodic reviews of the music program and recommend changes based upon the needs of the current congregation.
  • Plan and implement proactive instrument maintenance to the Board of Stewardship to ensure proper instrument abilities.
  • Request the purchase of new music to improve the musical abilities of the choir, junior choir and any applicable newer musical ensembles that the church may wish to start.
  • Create an Annual budget and subsequent rational, for the entire Music Program for the year.
  • Maintain all music and necessary supplies of the music program, completing Purchase orders and Requests for all needed items. Including an inventory of current selections and period purge of older selections.
  • Attend Weekly Staff Meetings with the Pastoral Team.

As Needed:

  • The Director of Music is encouraged to engage in opportunities for professional growth, especially in the field of Music, organ and piano. This can include continuing education with the American Guild of Organists as offered.
  • We are currently offering a salary range of $19,000-$23,000 negotiable depending on experience and education.
