Job Description: 

Purpose: To serve the church by developing, coordinating and leading the music programs and providing leadership to volunteers involved in this ministry. The leader shall work together with the board of music and the pastor as a team to infuse energy and innovation into our music programs leading to expanded community presence and membership growth. ||

Classification: Part Time

Reports: Chairperson of Board of Music
Qualifications:

  1. Formal music education, or equivalent experience in music performance in a church environment
  2. Instrumental or keyboard experience is required
  3. Ability to plan, rehearse, and conduct coral or ensemble groups
  4. Familiarity with worship leadership and planning
  5. Ability to organize and empower people of varying ages
  6. Ability to exercise good judgment and music selections to fit the service, congregation, and choir
  7. Ability to work well with volunteers and staff towards creating a collaborative worship experience
  8. Ability to foster growth and ministry

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and support effective musical leadership in the church in collaboration with the Board of Music, pastor, and Director of Christian education.
  • Provide for choral or instrumental music for weekly church services and special services of the church year.
  • Report regularly to the Board of Music.
  • Confer with the pastor on a regular basis.
  • Provide for music accompaniment for worship services.
  • Rehearse and provide accompaniment for the adult choir, or available singers, at regular in-house midweek rehearsals, allowing appropriate number of rehearsals for music to be well learned. Meet with singers for warm-up before worship services.
  • Assist in the end development of a new music ministry activities within the church and community.
  • Purchase music with approval from the Board of Music.
  • Ensure that the music library is maintained.
  • Arrange for a suitable substitute in case of absence.
  • The leader has first right of refusal to provide music for weddings and funerals, etc., as to be coordinated with the respective families.
  • May include other duties as assigned and mutually agreed upon.
