Position for Organist or Organist/Choir Director for two small Connecticut Congregational Churches which are joining and in process of combining. The Higganum Congregational Church was founded in 1844 and the First Congregational Church of Haddam, founded in 1700. The two churches are in the town of Haddam, (Higganum being the northern part of Haddam). Higganum’s organ is Opus 109 by Austin, two manual, eight rank. The Haddam Organ is also an Austin, Opus 2665, two manual, nineteen rank. The Haddam church burned in 1978 and was rebuilt in 1980. Each organ is in good shape. The two congregations are small and worship together, meeting in alternate months at one or the other’s campus. There is a small adult choir of about a dozen. We offer a salary of up to $24,000 for eleven months for the position of Organist/Choir Director, and about half that for the position of Organist. There is one Sunday service, plus a Thursday evening choir practice, plus the usual Christian Services of Easter and at Christmas. The position is for an eleven-month contract. The Organist is expected to be a proficient pianist. We encourage local members to contribute to the musical offerings when appropriate.
