Position Title: Director of Music

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Masters Degree in music, or equivalent is preferred

Experience: Five  years is preferred, subject to other qualifications, or experience in parish liturgical or music ministry.

Strong and extensive experience preparing and conductiing youth and volunteer adult choirs.  Ability to assess and demonstrate proper vocal and choral singing techniques pertaining to tone, blend, rhythm, intonation, breathing, diction  and style.

Exceptional proficiency on the organ is required. 

A strong background in the Anglican tradition is preferred.

MUSIC PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Music is central to liturgical planning in the Parish, collaborating closely with the Rector, clergy and staff at regular times, such as staff meetings and planning meetings for special services.  The Director of Music will work with other staff members to provide education and resources about liturgy and liturgical music in needed situations.  (Religious Education, Adult Faith Formation, Evangelization and Outreach)

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Principal church liturgist and organist, Artistic Director for the Christ Church Concert Series, possible Summer Music Festivals, or other outreach programs; weddings (fee to the organist)  and funerals.

DESCRIPTION:

Christ Church continues to treasure a history of musical and liturgical elegance, as well as outreach featuring national and international performers.  We have had for forty years, and seek for the future, an exceptional artist and liturgical manager.  We seek a person of great faith who has a passionate vision for our future music ministry.  That vision would include an expanded outreach to the community and beyond.  The Director of Music must not only excel at the organ, but have the confidence to lead an outstanding program.  We seek a candidate committed to attract young people to the music program, with a goal to expand the parish children's choir and developp a parish youth chorir program.  The position requires an accomplished choral direcotr who can find the congregation's voice.  We have one of the finest choirs in the region.

NUMBER OF SCHEDULED EVENTS:

Two Sunday services.  One weekly adult and one children's choir practice.  Other special services such as Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Lessons and Carols, Evensong, Maundy Thursday and Passiontide.  Possible addition of a third weekly service and young adult choir.  One weekly staff meeting.

EPISCOPAL DAY SCHOOL:

Collaborate with the school music teacher for growth and new relationships.  Participate in once a month chapel and special services.

ORGAN DESCRIPTION:

The organ was built in 1975 by Gabriel Kney of London, Ontario.  The organ's key action is mechanical.  The stop action is solid-state.  The keyboard compass is 56 notes, and the pedal compass is 32 notes.  The SSL combination action, installed by Kney in 1996, has eight general and four divisionnal combinations on each of eight levels of memory: 43 stops/60 ranks.  Other church instruments include harpsichord, piano and timpani.  Information on the organ can be found at https://pipeorgandatabase.org/organ/108

REQUIRED TRAVEL:  0-10%
