Job Description:

Camp Bethel, a non-denominational evangelical Christian camp, is seeking a Music Director for its 9-day camp meeting.  Camp Bethel, in Haddam, Connecticut, is situated on the bank of the Connecticut River.  Founded in 1878, we have conducted camp meeting the first full week of August for generations, with inspirational speakers, Bible study, youth camps, and lots of good music.  It is important that the leader of the choir and services have a true love for God and His people.  It is our hope that the Director will participate with others in developing and planning genuine, meaningful and creative forms in which the worship of God might be expanded in our total program.

Duties of the Music Director would include:

  • Choose music that will enhance the theme for the week, and bring copies (up to 15) for the choir.
  • Direct the choir (1 or 2 anthems) both Sunday morning services, and lead the congregational music as well as coordinate the order of worship with the speaker/pastor..
  • Direct the choir or small group in 2-3 evening services.
  • Hold 5-6 rehearsals during the week.
  • Become familiar with Camp Bethel’s hymn book.
  • Accompanying the congregation (if Director is a keyboardist) approximately 3 evenings at Vespers.
  • Plan and direct a concert on the second Saturday, with choir, small group, and soloists.
  • Contribute to the spirit of community at Camp.
  • Invite the membership, via our quarterly newsletter or emails, to join the choir or share their musical talents.

While we have historically enjoyed “traditional” music at Camp, we would enthusiastically welcome the addition of contemporary and/or gospel music.

Compensation will be commensurate with the experience and gifts of the Director.  All meals and housing are provided.  For further information, contact John Wolcott at 401-942-3614.
