Eight leading music and arts ministers from across the country will visit Yale at the end of October to be part of a panel and night of song that explores tradition and innovation in Black sacred music. The leaders are: Dr. Joyce Garrett, Dr. Will Harris, Evg. Barbara Jackson-Sago, Leon C. Lewis, L’Tanya Moore-Copeland, Minister Walter Owens, Dr. Eddie Robinson, and Dr. Diane White-Clayton. The events are part of the Institute of Sacred Music’s Interdisciplinary Program in Music and the Black Church and are co-sponsored by Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, and Yale Black Seminarians.
On Thursday, October 26, a 5 p.m. panel will explore the enduring and emerging challenges and opportunities facing those who minister through music and the arts. A dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m., catered by Sandra’s Next Generation, and then participants will gather at 7:30 p.m. for a service in Marquand Chapel where participants will be revived by the rich and robust range of Black Sacred music repertoire.
