Our heartfelt condolences go to the family and friends of Dr. Stephen Black who died on June 25, 2023. Stephen received his M.M.A. in conducting and organ from the ISM in 1999 and also directed the Battell Chapel Choir. He was the recipient of the Richard French Prize in Choral Conducting, a prize given only to an ISM student considered to be in the top one or two percent of candidates in choral conducting in the country. Described as living “in awe of the power of music”, Stephen was a prolific organist, serving as director of music in churches in Kentucky, New York, California, and Connecticut.
