Publications for ISM professor emeritus

April 28, 2024

Bryan Spinks, the Bishop F. Percy Goddard Professor Emeritus of Liturgical Studies and Pastoral Theology, has continued to stay busy with his research and teaching in spite of his 2022 retirement from the ISM and Yale Divinity School. Recently, his article “Perceptional Reality: Another View of the Anaphoral Epiclesis” appeared in Ecclesia Orans and a slightly revised version of his 2021 Kavanagh Lecture, “An Unusual Mrs. Murphy. Sleuthing Dorothy L. Sayer’s 1942 Address on Anglican Worship”, was published in Worship.

Spinks also had two book reviews published recently: one of Alistair C. Stewart’s Breaking Bread: The Emergence of Eucharist and Agape in the Early Communities for the Journal of Theological Studies and another for Paul R. Gilliam III’s William Whiston and the Apostolic Constitutions: Completing the Reformation for the Journal of Ecclesiastical History.

He is also set to present a paper at the May conference of the Society of Oriental Liturgy to be held at Catholic University, Washington DC, entitled “Distinctive Expansions of the Syro-Byzantine Anaphoral Pattern in the Syrian orthodox Tradition.’

Congratulations to professor emeritus Spinks on these recent accomplishments!
