Right half of Synagogue panel WC2 and dado

YUAG, Dura-Europos Collection, negative number y77

The scene on the panel to the left of the Torah niche is identified as depicting the Purim miracle of the triumph of Mordecai and Esther described in the Book of Esther: Haman is shown leading Mordecai (the Aramaic dipinto “Mordecai” is written under the horse’s belly). A dado decorates the lowest register of panels just above the benches: painted imitations of marble and inlay alternate with masks in circular medallions and animals in circular medallions and rectangular panels. From left to right in this photograph are panels with a leopard cub, a mask, and a tigress.
